Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Series: Hush, Hush #1

Publication: October 13th 2009 by Simon & Schuster BFYR

Source: Library Book

Goodreads Summary: A SACRED OATH
A FALLEN ANGEL
A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

My Thoughts:

I checked this book out of the library after I heard a lot of good things about it. I have the same opinion as a lot of people. This book was pretty Twilight-y. But I did still like it whereas I think most people hated it as far as I can tell.

The plot and the characters were Twilight-y. There is a mysterious guy who seems to have magical powers and who draws Nora in from the beginning. Nora is the typical teenage fantasy character in thinking that she is smart and won't get into any trouble and is incurably drawn to said mysterious guy. Regardless of it being Twilight-y, I still liked the characters besides that Nora annoyed me a little in her naivety.

The plot ran very slowly. Not much happened until about 3/4 of the way in. I understand that Fitzpatrick was trying to build suspense but I wish that she had shortened the book and gotten into the action part faster. The fantasy elements were explained well which is always nice when it comes to fantasy books. One thing I did dislike about it was how Fitzpatrick misrepresented fallen angels/demons. The "website" that Nora gets on completely misrepresents them and if you're going to write a book about demons/fallen angels, you should probably actually get it right and read what the Bible says about them. Just saying.

Part of the reason I went ahead and gave the book 3 stars was that I like Fitzpatrick's writing style. I think she's entertaining and I like the way she has her characters speak and interact. And I did like the book regardless of the Twilight feel.

Likes: Writing style. Characters.

Dislikes: Plot ran slowly. Twilight feel.

Overall:
Recommend? Yes.
