Dimitri has no idea how his family line became trapped in the genie bond. He just knows resisting has never ended well.

When he meets Syd - assertive, sexy, intelligent Syd - he becomes determined to make her his own. Except Karl has ensured Dimitri can't tell anyone about the bond, and Syd isn't the type to tolerate secrets.

Then Karl starts sending him away on back-to-back wishes. Unable to balance love and lies, Dimitri sets out to uncover Karl's ultimate plan and put it to an end. But doing so forces him to confront the one wish he never saw coming - the wish that will destroy him.

A dark twist on genie folklore, SUMMONED follows a reluctant criminal as he unravels the mystery of the paranormal bond controlling him.

My Thoughts:

This book really took me on a journey. And I loved every minute of it. What first drew my attention to this book was the cover and after skimming the blurb about it, I knew I had to read it. I love paranormal books and had yet to read a book focused on a jinn. I was expecting the typical genie type things to happen but I was given something much different yet surprisingly fun to read.

What really made this book for me was Dimitri's voice. He's hilarious and he never lost his sense of humor or his sarcastic way of describing things which I absolutely loved. My favorite brand of humor no doubt and one that not many authors utilize which makes this book even more unique. I wasn't a huge fan of Dim's love interest, Syd, in the beginning but she did grow on me as the story progressed. Silvia was also an interesting character who had a lot more to her than just her rich-girl life that you first see. She had a surprising twist hidden in herself which really lent an even more disturbing air to the book than it already had.

Although I loved Dimitri's voice, it still took me a while to get into the plot. I think mostly it was because I hadn't bothered to try to piece together what the different events had in common. So in the beginning I just felt like I was reading mismatched events and watching as Dimitri bumbled through his servitude and I honestly still would've been satisfied if that's all the book had delivered. However, when the twists started to be revealed, I loved how the plot came together. There were twists galore and they were magnificent twists indeed.

I also love the uniqueness of this book as well. There aren't many books told from male point of views for one thing, let alone in the New Adult genre and paranormal on top of that. I loved getting bits and pieces of the folklore of jinn told throughout the story which would help an ordinary reader unfamiliar with them. I also love that Dimitri's family history was revealed and that we got to see how his family developed a genie bond. A perfect way to bring the book full circle which is always one of my favorite ways to end a book.

Likes: Dimitri's sarcasm and sense of humor. I loved Syd's random bits of information about different mythology stories and the like. I like that Syd's identity and family history was slowly and very organically revealed in a way that fit her and Dimitri's relationship. The twists.

Dislikes: A few grammar/spelling errors. I felt that there were too many romantic trysts between Dimitri and Syd and it really didn't add or help along anything in the story.

Overall:
Recommend? Yes!
Reading the Next One? Yes!
